Take a man’s ¹  garment ²  when he has given security for a stranger, ³  and when he gives surety for strangers, ⁴  hold him ⁵  in pledge.

For with mocking lips and a foreign tongue he will speak to these people. ¹ 

You will no longer see a defiant ¹  people whose language you do not comprehend, ²  whose derisive speech you do not understand. ³ 

for a prostitute is like ¹  a deep pit; a harlot ²  is like ³  a narrow well. ⁴ 

So also ¹  Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighboring towns, ²  since they indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire ³  in a way similar to ⁴  these angels, ⁵  are now displayed as an example by suffering the punishment of eternal fire.

and her two sons, one of whom was named Gershom (for Moses ¹  had said, “I have been a foreigner in a foreign land”),

They threw away the foreign gods they owned ¹  and worshiped ²  the Lord. Finally the Lord grew tired of seeing Israel suffer so much. ³ 

Should we then in your case hear that you do all this great evil, thereby being unfaithful to our God by marrying ¹  foreign wives?”

Does the snow ever completely vanish from the rocky slopes of Lebanon? Do the cool waters from those distant mountains ever cease to flow? ¹ 

So ¹  they are astonished ²  when you do not rush with them into the same flood of wickedness, and they vilify you. ³ 

For you ignore ¹  the God who rescues you; you pay no attention to your strong protector. ²  So this is what happens: You cultivate beautiful plants and plant exotic vines. ³ 

So Moses thought, ¹  “I will turn aside to see ²  this amazing ³  sight. Why does the bush not burn up?” ⁴ 

“You must not wrong ¹  a foreigner ²  nor oppress him, for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt.

So you must love the resident foreigner because you were foreigners in the land of Egypt.

He built high places for all his foreign wives so they could burn incense and make sacrifices to their gods. ¹ 

All these had taken foreign wives, and some of them also had children by these women. ¹ 

These ten times ¹  you have been reproaching me; ²  you are not ashamed to attack me! ³ 

For the lips ¹  of the adulterous woman drip honey, and her seductive words ²  are smoother than olive oil,

But why should you be captivated, ¹  my son, by an adulteress, and embrace the bosom of a different woman? ²
