O Lord, do not let me be humiliated, for I call out to you! May evil men be humiliated! May they go wailing to the grave! ¹ 

But he was silent and did not answer. Again the high priest questioned him, ¹  “Are you the Christ, ²  the Son of the Blessed One?”

Thus ¹  they were unable in the presence of the people to trap ²  him with his own words. ³  And stunned ⁴  by his answer, they fell silent.

the women ¹  should be silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak. ²  Rather, let them be in submission, as in fact the law says.

But you take notice, ¹  Lord! O Lord, do not remain far away from me!

I was stone silent; ¹  I held back the urge to speak. ²  My frustration grew; ³ 

But they were silent, for on the way they had argued with one another about who was the greatest.

But Jesus was silent. The ¹  high priest said to him, “I charge you under oath by the living God, tell us if you are the Christ, ²  the Son of God.”

Look, I have decreed: ¹  I will not keep silent, but will pay them back; I will pay them back exactly what they deserve, ² 

Then ¹  he said to them, “Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath, or evil, to save a life or destroy it?” But they were silent.

Now the passage of scripture the man ¹  was reading was this: “He was led like a sheep to slaughter, and like a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he did ²  not open his mouth.

“Teach ¹  me and I, for my part, ²  will be silent; explain to me ³  how I have been mistaken. ⁴ 

When I refused to confess my sin, ¹  my whole body wasted away, ²  while I groaned in pain all day long.

I am silent and cannot open my mouth because of what you have done. ¹ 

For this reason whoever is smart ¹  keeps quiet ²  in such a time, for it is an evil ³  time.

But the Lord is in his majestic palace. ¹  The whole earth is speechless in his presence!” ² 

“People ¹  listened to me and waited silently; ²  they kept silent for my advice.

י (Yod) Let a person ¹  sit alone in silence, when the Lord ²  is disciplining him. ³ 

But ¹  Jesus rebuked him: ²  “Silence! Come out of him!” ³ 

Tremble with fear and do not sin! ¹  Meditate as you lie in bed, and repent of your ways! ²  (Selah)
