speaking of these things in all his letters. ¹  Some things in these letters ²  are hard to understand, things ³  the ignorant and unstable twist ⁴  to their own destruction, as they also do to the rest of the scriptures. ⁵ 

Don’t the scriptures say that the Christ is a descendant ¹  of David ²  and comes from Bethlehem, ³  the village where David lived?” ⁴ 

But the one who boasts must boast in the Lord. ¹ 

His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal ¹  for your house will devour me.” ² 

Now this happened ¹  to fulfill the word that is written in their law, ‘They hated me without reason.’ ² 

For just as it is written, “the name of God is being blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.” ¹ 

Our ancestors ¹  ate the manna in the wilderness, just as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’” ² 

They replied, ¹  “You aren’t from Galilee too, are you? ²  Investigate carefully and you will see that no prophet ³  comes from Galilee!”

But the scripture imprisoned ¹  everything and everyone ²  under sin so that the promise could be given – because of the faithfulness ³  of Jesus Christ – to those who believe.

But if you fulfill the royal law as expressed in this scripture, ¹  “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” ²  you are doing well.

For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John appeared. ¹ 

“The ¹  experts in the law ²  and the Pharisees ³  sit on Moses’ seat.

for it is written, ‘He will command his angels concerning you, to protect you,’ ¹ 

because these are days of vengeance, ¹  to fulfill ²  all that is written.

Jesus found a young donkey ¹  and sat on it, just as it is written,

(For they did not yet understand ¹  the scripture that Jesus ²  must rise from the dead.) ³ 

just as it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one,

just as it is written: “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.” ¹ 

For the scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” ¹ 

so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.” ¹
