Ebed Melech departed the palace and went to speak to the king. He said to him,

So Samuel took the horn full of olive oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers. The Spirit of the Lord rushed upon David from that day onward. Then Samuel got up and went to Ramah.

When Azariah the high priest and the other priests looked at ¹  him, there was a skin disease on his forehead. They hurried him out of there; even the king ²  himself wanted to leave quickly because the Lord had afflicted him.

However, some of the officials ¹  of Judah heard about what was happening ²  and they rushed up to the Lord’s temple from the royal palace. They set up court ³  at the entrance of the New Gate of the Lord’s temple. ⁴ 

Woe to them! For they have traveled down Cain’s path, ¹  and because of greed ²  have abandoned themselves ³  to ⁴  Balaam’s error; hence, ⁵  they will certainly perish ⁶  in Korah’s rebellion.

(Now Rebekah had a brother named Laban.) ¹  Laban rushed out to meet the man at the spring.

So ¹  they left the tomb quickly, with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples.

For he had healed many, so that all who were afflicted with diseases pressed toward him in order to touch him.
