For the Lord will rescue the descendants of Jacob. He will secure their release ¹  from those who had overpowered them. ² 

He delivered his people; ¹  he ordained that his covenant be observed forever. ²  His name is holy and awesome.

You know that from your empty way of life inherited from your ancestors you were ransomed – not by perishable things like silver or gold,

O God, rescue ¹  Israel from all their distress! ² 

What can a person give in exchange for his life?

You were bought with a price. Do not become slaves of men.

So Moses took the redemption money ¹  from those who were in excess of those redeemed by the Levites.

In time of famine ¹  he will redeem you from death, and in time of war from the power of the sword. ² 

“Have I ¹  ever said, ²  ‘Give me something, and from your fortune ³  make gifts ⁴  in my favor’?

For I looked forward to the day of vengeance, and then payback time arrived. ¹ 

to redeem those who were under the law, so that we may be adopted as sons with full rights. ¹ 

And for the redemption of the 273 firstborn males of the Israelites who exceed the number of the Levites,

Moses gave the redemption money to Aaron and his sons, according to the word of the Lord, as the Lord had commanded Moses.

He is the reason you have a relationship with Christ Jesus, ¹  who became for us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption,

You are to receive the atonement money ¹  from the Israelites and give it for the service ²  of the tent of meeting. It will be a memorial ³  for the Israelites before the Lord, to make atonement ⁴  for your lives.”

If, however, ¹  it is among the unclean animals, he may ransom it according to ²  its conversion value and must add one fifth to it, but if it is not redeemed it must be sold according to its conversion value.

Certainly ¹  I am aware of ²  your many rebellious acts ³  and your numerous sins. You ⁴  torment the innocent, you take bribes, and you deny justice to ⁵  the needy at the city gate. ⁶ 

And so he is the mediator ¹  of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the eternal inheritance he has promised, ²  since he died ³  to set them free from the violations committed under the first covenant.

Why does no one challenge me when I come? Why does no one respond when I call? ¹  Is my hand too weak ²  to deliver ³  you? Do I lack the power to rescue you? Look, with a mere shout ⁴  I can dry up the sea; I can turn streams into a desert, so the fish rot away and die from lack of water. ⁵ 

Here I am. Bring a charge against me before the Lord and before his chosen king. ¹  Whose ox have I taken? Whose donkey have I taken? Whom have I wronged? Whom have I oppressed? From whose hand have I taken a bribe so that I would overlook something? Tell me, ²  and I will return it to you!”
