The true light, who gives light to everyone, ¹  was coming into the world. ² 

“If the world hates you, be aware ¹  that it hated me first. ² 

And when he ¹  comes, he will prove the world wrong ²  concerning sin and ³  righteousness and ⁴  judgment –

and concerning judgment, ¹  because ²  the ruler of this world ³  has been condemned. ⁴ 

There are probably many kinds of languages in the world, and none is without meaning.

So also we, when we were minors, ¹  were enslaved under the basic forces ²  of the world.

Therefore do not be surprised, brothers and sisters, ¹  if the world hates you. ² 

If anyone ¹  hears my words and does not obey them, ²  I do not judge him. For I have not come to judge the world, but to save the world. ³ 

Just before the Passover feast, Jesus knew that his time ¹  had come to depart ²  from this world to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he now loved them to the very end. ³ 

I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble and suffering, ¹  but take courage ²  – I have conquered the world.” ³ 

In no way did I mean the immoral people of this world, or the greedy and swindlers and idolaters, since you would then have to go out of the world.

Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you not competent to settle trivial suits?

Adulterers, do you not know that friendship with the world means hostility toward God? ¹  So whoever decides to be the world’s friend makes himself God’s enemy.

and if he did not spare the ancient world, but did protect Noah, a herald of righteousness, along with seven others, ¹  when God ²  brought a flood on an ungodly world, ³ 

because all that is in the world (the desire of the flesh and the desire of the eyes and the arrogance produced by material possessions) ¹  is not from the Father, but is from the world.

For what benefit is it for a person ¹  to gain the whole world, yet ²  forfeit his life?

and his clothes became radiantly white, more so than any launderer in the world could bleach them.

For what does it benefit a person ¹  if he gains the whole world but loses or forfeits himself?

For all the nations of the world pursue ¹  these things, and your Father knows that you need them.

For the bread of God is the one who ¹  comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
