He is driven ¹  from light into darkness and is banished from the world.

Who entrusted ¹  to him the earth? And who put him over ²  the whole world?

He judges the world fairly; he makes just legal decisions for the nations. ¹ 

His lightning bolts light up the world; the earth sees and trembles.

From eternity I was appointed, ¹  from the beginning, from before the world existed. ² 

You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill cannot be hidden.

He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.

The true light, who gives light to everyone, ¹  was coming into the world. ² 

“If the world hates you, be aware ¹  that it hated me first. ² 

And when he ¹  comes, he will prove the world wrong ²  concerning sin and ³  righteousness and ⁴  judgment –

and concerning judgment, ¹  because ²  the ruler of this world ³  has been condemned. ⁴ 

There are probably many kinds of languages in the world, and none is without meaning.

So also we, when we were minors, ¹  were enslaved under the basic forces ²  of the world.

Therefore do not be surprised, brothers and sisters, ¹  if the world hates you. ² 

If anyone ¹  hears my words and does not obey them, ²  I do not judge him. For I have not come to judge the world, but to save the world. ³ 

Just before the Passover feast, Jesus knew that his time ¹  had come to depart ²  from this world to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he now loved them to the very end. ³ 

I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble and suffering, ¹  but take courage ²  – I have conquered the world.” ³ 

In no way did I mean the immoral people of this world, or the greedy and swindlers and idolaters, since you would then have to go out of the world.

Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you not competent to settle trivial suits?

Adulterers, do you not know that friendship with the world means hostility toward God? ¹  So whoever decides to be the world’s friend makes himself God’s enemy.
