as also in another place God ¹  says, “You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.” ² 

where Jesus our forerunner entered on our behalf, since he became a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek. ¹ 

For here is the testimony about him: ¹  “You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.” ² 

Then the chief priests and the elders of the people met together in the palace of the high priest, who was named Caiaphas.

But ¹  one of those with Jesus grabbed ²  his sword, drew it out, and struck the high priest’s slave, ³  cutting off his ear.

Now the ones who had arrested Jesus led him to Caiaphas, the high priest, in whose house ¹  the experts in the law ²  and the elders had gathered.

So ¹  the high priest stood up and said to him, “Have you no answer? What is this that they are testifying against you?”

Then the high priest tore his clothes and declared, ¹  “He has blasphemed! Why do we still need witnesses? Now ²  you have heard the blasphemy!

Then ¹  they led Jesus to the high priest, and all the chief priests and elders and experts in the law ²  came together.

And Peter had followed him from a distance, up to the high priest’s courtyard. He ¹  was sitting with the guards ²  and warming himself by the fire.

Then ¹  the high priest stood up before them ²  and asked Jesus, “Have you no answer? What is this that they are testifying against you?”

But he was silent and did not answer. Again the high priest questioned him, ¹  “Are you the Christ, ²  the Son of the Blessed One?”

Now by chance ¹  a priest was going down that road, but ²  when he saw the injured man ³  he passed by ⁴  on the other side. ⁵ 

Then ¹  they arrested ²  Jesus, ³  led him away, and brought him into the high priest’s house. ⁴  But Peter was following at a distance.

They ¹  brought him first to Annas, for he was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was high priest that year. ² 

Now the high priest rose up, and all those with him (that is, the religious party of the Sadducees ¹ ), ²  and they were filled with jealousy. ³ 

Paul replied, ¹  “I did not realize, ²  brothers, that he was the high priest, for it is written, ‘You must not speak evil about a ruler of your people.’” ³ 

After five days the high priest Ananias ¹  came down with some elders and an attorney ²  named ³  Tertullus, and they ⁴  brought formal charges ⁵  against Paul to the governor.

Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, ¹  partners in a heavenly calling, take note of Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess, ² 

Therefore since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession.
