So Naomi ¹  said, “Look, your sister-in-law is returning to her people and to her god. ²  Follow your sister-in-law back home!”

For I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law,

Hasn’t Moses given you the law? Yet not one of you keeps ¹  the law! Why do you want ²  to kill me?”

The Jewish leaders ¹  replied, ²  “We have a law, ³  and according to our law he ought to die, because he claimed to be the Son of God!” ⁴ 

For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous before God, but those who do the law will be declared righteous. ¹ 

For circumcision ¹  has its value if you practice the law, but ²  if you break the law, ³  your circumcision has become uncircumcision.

And will not the physically uncircumcised man ¹  who keeps the law judge you who, despite ²  the written code ³  and circumcision, transgress the law?

For no one is declared righteous before him ¹  by the works of the law, ²  for through the law comes ³  the knowledge of sin.

But now ¹  apart from the law the righteousness of God (which is attested by the law and the prophets) ²  has been disclosed –

for before the law was given, ¹  sin was in the world, but there is no accounting for sin ²  when there is no law.

For the law of the life-giving Spirit ¹  in Christ Jesus has set you ²  free from the law of sin and death.

But the law is not based on faith, ¹  but the one who does the works of the law ²  will live by them. ³ 

For the law appoints as high priests men subject to weakness, ¹  but the word of solemn affirmation that came after the law appoints a son made perfect forever.

Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, took Moses’ wife Zipporah after he had sent her back,

Moses’ father-in-law said to him, “What ¹  you are doing is not good!

Moses listened to ¹  his father-in-law and did everything he had said.

“‘This is the law of the guilt offering. It is most holy.

You must inscribe on the stones all the words of this law, making them clear.”

When Moses finished writing on a scroll the words of this law in their entirety,

Moses delivered to us a law, ¹  an inheritance for the assembly of Jacob.
