When the righteous do well, ¹  the city rejoices; ²  when the wicked perish, there is joy.

The heart knows its own bitterness, ¹  and with its joy no one else ²  can share. ³ 

Even in laughter the heart may ache, ¹  and the end ²  of joy may be ³  grief.

A wise child ¹  brings joy to his father, but a foolish person ²  despises ³  his mother.

A bright look ¹  brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the body. ² 

Doing ¹  justice brings ²  joy to the righteous and terror ³  to those who do evil.

May your father and your mother have joy; may she who bore you rejoice. ¹ 

For no one ¹  can eat and drink ²  or experience joy ³  apart from him. ⁴ 

Our hearts no longer have any joy; ¹  our dancing is turned to mourning.

Joy and gladness will come ¹  to you, and many will rejoice at ²  his birth, ³ 

So ¹  they worshiped ²  him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, ³ 

And the disciples were filled with joy ¹  and with the Holy Spirit.

But the fruit of the Spirit ¹  is love, ²  joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, ³ 

I always pray with joy in my every prayer for all of you

So welcome him in the Lord with great joy, and honor people like him,

Grieve, mourn, ¹  and weep. Turn your laughter ²  into mourning and your joy into despair.

Thus ¹  we are writing these things so that ²  our ³  joy may be complete. ⁴ 

those whom the Lord has ransomed will return that way. ¹  They will enter Zion with a happy shout. Unending joy will crown them, ²  happiness and joy will overwhelm ³  them; grief and suffering will disappear. ⁴
