When some of the bystanders heard it they said, “Listen, he is calling for Elijah!” ¹ 

Elijah told them, “Seize the prophets of Baal! Don’t let even one of them escape!” So they seized them, and Elijah led them down to the Kishon Valley and executed ¹  them there.

When Elijah heard it, he covered his face with his robe and went out and stood at the entrance to the cave. All of a sudden ¹  a voice asked him, “Why are you here, Elijah?”

Elijah went from there and found Elisha son of Shaphat. He was plowing with twelve pairs of oxen; he was near the twelfth pair. Elijah passed by him and threw his robe over him.

He left the oxen, ran after Elijah, and said, “Please let me kiss my father and mother goodbye, then I will follow you.” Elijah ¹  said to him, “Go back! Indeed, what have I done to you?”

When Elijah arrived, Ahab said to him, ¹  “So, you have found me, my enemy!” Elijah ²  replied, “I have found you, because you are committed ³  to doing evil in the sight of ⁴  the Lord.

As they were walking along and talking, suddenly a fiery chariot ¹  pulled by fiery horses appeared. ²  They went between Elijah and Elisha, ³  and Elijah went up to heaven in a windstorm.

He took the cloak that had fallen off Elijah, ¹  hit the water with it, and said, “Where is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” When he hit the water, it divided and Elisha crossed over.

She asked Elijah, “Why, prophet, have you come ¹  to me to confront me with ²  my sin and kill my son?”

The Lord answered Elijah’s prayer; the boy’s breath returned to him and he lived.

Now you say, ‘Go and say to your master, “Elijah is back,”’ ¹  but he will kill me.”

When Ahab saw Elijah, he ¹  said to him, “Is it really you, the one who brings disaster ²  on Israel?”

Look, I will send you Elijah ¹  the prophet before the great and terrible day of the Lord arrives.

They answered, “Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, ¹  and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

The disciples asked him, ¹  “Why then do the experts in the law ²  say that Elijah must come first?”

But the rest said, “Leave him alone! Let’s see if Elijah will come to save him.” ¹ 

Others said, “He is Elijah.” Others said, “He is a prophet, like one of the prophets from the past.”

Then ¹  they asked him, ²  “Why do the experts in the law ³  say that Elijah must come first?”

So they asked John, ¹  “Why then are you baptizing if you are not the Christ, ²  nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”

The jar of flour was never empty and the jug of oil never ran out, just as the Lord had promised ¹  through Elijah.
