And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades ¹  will not overpower it.

But Saul was trying to destroy ¹  the church; entering one house after another, he dragged off ²  both men and women and put them in prison. ³ 

When they arrived in Jerusalem, they were received ¹  by the church and the apostles and the elders, and they reported ²  all the things God had done with them. ³

For in the first place, when you come together as a church I hear there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it.

And God has placed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, gifts of healing, helps, gifts of leadership, different kinds of tongues.

It is the same with you. Since you are eager for manifestations of the Spirit, ¹  seek to abound in order to strengthen the church.

but in the church I want to speak five words with my mind to instruct others, rather than ten thousand words in a tongue.

So if the whole church comes together and all speak in tongues, and unbelievers or uninformed people enter, will they not say that you have lost your minds?

But if there is no interpreter, he should be silent in the church. Let him speak to himself and to God.

If they want to find out about something, they should ask their husbands at home, because it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in church. ¹ 

For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.

The churches in the province of Asia ¹  send greetings to you. Aquila and Prisca ²  greet ³  you warmly in the Lord, with the church that meets in their house.

For you have heard of my former way of life ¹  in Judaism, how I was savagely persecuting the church of God and trying to destroy it.

And God ¹  put ²  all things under Christ’s ³  feet, ⁴  and he gave him to the church as head over all things. ⁵ 

because the husband is the head of the wife as also Christ is the head of the church – he himself being the savior of the body.

so that he ¹  may present the church to himself as glorious – not having a stain or wrinkle, or any such blemish, but holy and blameless. ² 

For no one has ever hated his own body ¹  but he feeds it and takes care of it, just as Christ also does the church,
