Ishmael lived a total of ¹  137 years. He breathed his last and died; then he joined his ancestors. ² 

He delivered us from there so that he could give us the land he had promised our ancestors.

Then they will obey ¹  you throughout their lifetimes as ²  they live on the land you gave to our ancestors.

He abandoned the Lord God of his ancestors and did not follow the Lord’s instructions. ¹ 

He ordered Judah to seek the Lord God of their ancestors ¹  and to observe his law and commands. ² 

They solemnly agreed ¹  to seek the Lord God of their ancestors ²  with their whole heart and being.

However, the high places were not eliminated; the people were still not devoted to the God of their ancestors. ¹ 

“You saw the affliction of our ancestors in Egypt, and you heard their cry at the Red Sea. ¹ 

Your ¹  sons will carry ²  on the dynasty of your ancestors; ³  you will make them princes throughout the land.

He did amazing things in the sight of their ancestors, in the land of Egypt, in the region of Zoan. ¹ 

They were unfaithful ¹  and acted as treacherously as ²  their ancestors; they were as unreliable as a malfunctioning bow. ³ 

where your ancestors challenged my authority, ¹  and tried my patience, even though they had seen my work.

May his ancestors’ ¹  sins be remembered by the Lord! May his mother’s sin not be forgotten! ² 

O LORD, we have been humiliated ¹  – our kings, our leaders, and our ancestors – because we have sinned against you.

Then Abraham breathed his last and died at a good old age, an old man who had lived a full life. ¹  He joined his ancestors. ² 

Then Isaac breathed his last and joined his ancestors. ¹  He died an old man who had lived a full life. ²  His sons Esau and Jacob buried him.

Pharaoh said to Joseph’s ¹  brothers, “What is your occupation?” They said to Pharaoh, “Your servants take care of flocks, just as our ancestors did.” ² 

but then ¹  he may go free, ²  he and his children with him, and may return to his family and to the property of his ancestors. ³

Remove Aaron’s priestly garments ¹  and put them on Eleazar his son, and Aaron will be gathered to his ancestors ²  and will die there.”
