You will desecrate your silver-plated idols ¹  and your gold-plated images. ²  You will throw them away as if they were a menstrual rag, saying to them, “Get out!”

The wheels were constructed like chariot wheels; their crossbars, rims, spokes, and hubs were made of cast metal.

that with an iron chisel and with lead ¹  they were engraved in a rock forever!

Iron is taken from the ground, ¹  and rock is poured out ²  as copper.

Who forms a god and casts an idol that will prove worthless? ¹

What good ¹  is an idol? Why would a craftsman make it? ²  What good is a metal image that gives misleading oracles? ³  Why would its creator place his trust in it ⁴  and make ⁵  such mute, worthless things?

Like a coating of glaze ¹  over earthenware are fervent ²  lips with an evil heart. ³

Even now they persist in sin! ¹  They make metal images for themselves, idols that they skillfully fashion ²  from their own silver; all of them are nothing but the work of craftsmen! There is a saying about them: ³  “Those who sacrifice ⁴  to the calf idol are calf kissers!” ⁵ 

When ¹  Aaron saw this, ²  he built an altar before it, ³  and Aaron made a proclamation ⁴  and said, “Tomorrow will be a feast ⁵  to the Lord.”

The mountains will disintegrate ¹  beneath him, and the valleys will be split in two. ²  The mountains will melt ³  like wax in a fire, the rocks will slide down like water cascading down a steep slope. ⁴
