But they encountered a patch of crosscurrents ¹  and ran the ship aground; the bow stuck fast and could not be moved, but the stern was being broken up by the force ²  of the waves.

But the Lord struck Pharaoh and his household with severe diseases ¹  because of Sarai, Abram’s wife.

But if you refuse to release them, then I am going to plague ¹  all your territory with frogs. ² 

But now the same thing ¹  comes to you, and you are discouraged; ²  it strikes you, and you are terrified. ³ 

“Surely one does not stretch out his hand against a broken man ¹  when he cries for help in his distress. ² 

The people did not return to the one who struck them, they did not seek reconciliation ¹  with the Lord who commands armies.

Before she goes into labor, she gives birth! Before her contractions begin, she delivers a boy!

You too will act like drunkards; ¹  you will go into hiding; ²  you too will seek refuge from the enemy.

Then they spat in his face and struck him with their fists. And some slapped him,

They ¹  came up to him again and again ²  and said, “Hail, king of the Jews!” ³  And they struck him repeatedly ⁴  in the face.

Do not repay anyone evil for evil; consider what is good before all people. ¹ 

Grieve, mourn, ¹  and weep. Turn your laughter ²  into mourning and your joy into despair.

When Gideon arrived, he heard a man telling another man about a dream he had. ¹  The man ²  said, “Look! I had a dream. I saw ³  a stale cake of barley bread rolling into the Midianite camp. It hit a tent so hard it knocked it over and turned it upside down. The tent just collapsed.” ⁴ 

Now an archer shot an arrow at random, ¹  and it struck the king of Israel between the plates of his armor. The king ²  ordered his charioteer, “Turn around and take me from the battle line, ³  because I’m wounded.”

He took the cloak that had fallen off Elijah, ¹  hit the water with it, and said, “Where is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” When he hit the water, it divided and Elisha crossed over.

So Israel’s sons came to buy grain among the other travelers, ¹  for the famine was severe in the land of Canaan.

“If a thief is caught ¹  breaking in ²  and is struck so that he dies, there will be no blood guilt for him. ³ 

I will strike them with the pestilence, ¹  and I will disinherit them; I will make you into a nation that is greater and mightier than they!”

The judge ¹  may sentence him to forty blows, ²  but no more. If he is struck with more than these, you might view your fellow Israelite ³  with contempt.
