The lips of the wise spread ¹  knowledge, but not so the heart of fools. ² 

The discerning heart seeks knowledge, but the mouth of fools feeds on folly. ¹ 

The truly wise person ¹  restrains ²  his words, and the one who stays calm ³  is discerning.

Flog ¹  a scorner, and as a result the simpleton ²  will learn prudence; ³  correct a discerning person, and as a result he will understand knowledge. ⁴ 

If you stop listening to ¹  instruction, my child, you will stray ²  from the words of knowledge.

There is gold, and an abundance of rubies, but ¹  words of knowledge ²  are like ³  a precious jewel.

When a scorner is punished, the naive ¹  becomes wise; when a wise person is instructed, ²  he gains knowledge.

The eyes of the Lord ¹  guard knowledge, ²  but he overthrows the words of the faithless person. ³ 

A wise warrior ¹  is strong, ²  and a man of knowledge makes his strength stronger;

The righteous person cares for ¹  the legal rights ²  of the poor; the wicked does not understand such ³  knowledge.

Then ¹  all the nations of the earth will recognize that the Lord is the only genuine God. ² 

Day after day it speaks out; ¹  night after night it reveals his greatness. ² 

“How long will you simpletons ¹  love naiveté? ²  How long ³  will mockers ⁴  delight ⁵  in mockery ⁶  and fools ⁷  hate knowledge?

It is dangerous ¹  to have zeal ²  without knowledge, and the one who acts hastily ³  makes poor choices. ⁴ 

For with great wisdom comes ¹  great frustration; whoever increases his ²  knowledge merely ³  increases his ⁴  heartache.

For wisdom provides ¹  protection, ²  just as ³  money provides protection. ⁴  But the advantage of knowledge is this: Wisdom preserves the life ⁵  of its owner.

Therefore my ¹  people will be deported ²  because of their lack of understanding. Their ³  leaders will have nothing to eat, ⁴  their ⁵  masses will have nothing to drink. ⁶ 

From whom does he receive directions? ¹  Who ²  teaches him the correct way to do things, ³  or imparts knowledge to him, or instructs him in skillful design? ⁴ 

They do one act of violence after another, and one deceitful thing after another. ¹  They refuse to pay attention to me,” ²  says the Lord.
