But the Lord’s angel ¹  called to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!” “Here I am!” he answered.

His servants ¹  dug another well, but they quarreled over it too, so Isaac named it ²  Sitnah. ³ 

So he named it Shibah; ¹  that is why the name of the city has been Beer Sheba ²  to this day.

He called that place Bethel, ¹  although the former name of the town was Luz.

Laban called it Jegar Sahadutha, ¹  but Jacob called it Galeed. ² 

Then Jacob offered a sacrifice ¹  on the mountain and invited his relatives to eat the meal. ²  They ate the meal and spent the night on the mountain.

Jacob named the place ¹  where God spoke with him Bethel. ² 

Afterward his brother came out – the one who had the scarlet thread on his hand – and he was named Zerah. ¹ 

When she bore ¹  a son, Moses ²  named him Gershom, for he said, “I have become a resident foreigner in a foreign land.” ³ 

Then Pharaoh also summoned wise men and sorcerers, ¹  and the magicians ²  of Egypt by their secret arts ³  did the same thing.

Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Go, sacrifice to your God within the land.” ¹ 

When ¹  Aaron saw this, ²  he built an altar before it, ³  and Aaron made a proclamation ⁴  and said, “Tomorrow will be a feast ⁵  to the Lord.”

The Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there and proclaimed the Lord by name. ¹ 

But Moses called to them, so Aaron and all the leaders of the community came back to him, and Moses spoke to them.

Then the Lord called to Moses and spoke to him ¹  from the Meeting Tent: ² 

So he called the name of that place Taberah ¹  because there the fire of the Lord burned among them.

And the Lord came down in a pillar of cloud and stood at the entrance of the tent; he then called Aaron and Miriam, and they both came forward.

Now Jair son of Manasseh went and captured their small towns and named them Havvoth Jair.

Then Nobah went and captured Kenath and its villages and called it Nobah after his own name.

When he finished speaking, he threw the jawbone down ¹  and named that place Ramath Lehi. ²
