Therefore I say, ‘Listen ¹  to me. I, even I, will explain what I know.’

The godless at heart ¹  nourish anger, ²  they do not cry out even when he binds them.

Who can understand the spreading of the clouds, the thunderings of his pavilion? ¹ 

¹ His thunder announces the coming storm, the cattle also, concerning the storm’s approach.

He loads the clouds with moisture; ¹  he scatters his lightning through the clouds.

It is as if I have been given fertile fields or received a beautiful tract of land. ¹ 

But ¹  you rejected and embarrassed us! You did not go into battle with our armies. ² 

My hand will support him, ¹  and my arm will strengthen him.

I will appoint him to be my firstborn son, ¹  the most exalted of the earth’s kings.

You turn back ¹  his sword from the adversary, ²  and have not sustained him in battle. ³ 

So the Lord was angry with his people ¹  and despised the people who belong to him. ² 

ears, but cannot hear, noses, but cannot smell,

She has prepared her meat, ¹  she has mixed her wine; she also has arranged her table. ² 

If the righteous are recompensed on earth, ¹  how much more ²  the wicked sinner! ³ 

A gentle response ¹  turns away anger, but a harsh word ²  stirs up wrath. ³ 

A gift given ¹  in secret subdues ²  anger, and a bribe given secretly ³  subdues ⁴  strong wrath. ⁵ 

The wicked person’s sacrifice ¹  is an abomination; how much more ²  when he brings it with evil intent! ³ 

So that ¹  your confidence may be in the Lord, I am making them known to you today ²  – even you.

Indeed, she lies in wait like a robber, ¹  and increases the unfaithful ²  among men. ³ 

Wrath is cruel and anger is overwhelming, ¹  but who can stand before jealousy? ²
