and if he has no daughter, then you are to give his inheritance to his brothers;

“But if he strikes him out of hatred or throws something at him intentionally ¹  so that he dies,

If the person is poor you may not use what he gives you as security for a covering. ¹ 

But if you continue to do evil, both you and your king will be swept away.”

Does God pervert ¹  justice? ²  Or does the Almighty pervert ³  what is right?

If it is a matter of strength, ¹  most certainly ²  he is the strong one! And if it is a matter of justice, he will say, ‘Who will summon me?’ ³ 

“Should not this ¹  abundance of words be answered, ²  or should this ³  talkative man ⁴  be vindicated? ⁵ 

Is my ¹  complaint against a man? ²  If so, ³  why should I not be impatient? ⁴ 

“If this is not so, who can prove me a liar and reduce my words to nothing?” ¹ 

“If you have ¹  understanding, listen to this, hear what I have to say. ² 

Do you really think ¹  that one who hates justice can govern? ²  And will you declare guilty the supremely righteous ³  One,

But if they refuse to listen, they pass over the river of death, ¹  and expire without knowledge.

Do you have an arm as powerful as God’s, ¹  and can you thunder with a voice like his?

When you walk, your steps ¹  will not be hampered, ²  and when you run, ³  you will not stumble.

for riches do not last ¹  forever, nor does a crown last ²  from generation to generation.

If you have done foolishly by exalting yourself ¹  or if you have planned evil, put ²  your hand over your mouth!

Can spoils be taken from a warrior, or captives be rescued from a conqueror? ¹ 

These people make promises in the name of the Lord. ¹  But the fact is, ²  what they swear to is really a lie.” ³ 

that I must go down ¹  and see if they are as wicked as the outcry suggests. ²  If not, ³  I want to know.”
