When Israel joined themselves to Baal-peor, ¹  the anger of the Lord flared up against Israel.

So the anger of the Lord was kindled that day, and he swore,

He who removes mountains suddenly, ¹  who overturns them in his anger; ² 

God does not restrain his anger; ¹  under him the helpers of Rahab ²  lie crushed. ³ 

for while ¹  my spirit ²  is still in me, and the breath from God is in my nostrils,

The godless at heart ¹  nourish anger, ²  they do not cry out even when he binds them.

Scatter abroad ¹  the abundance ²  of your anger. Look at every proud man ³  and bring him low;

Can you put a cord through its nose, or pierce its jaw with a hook?

Do not be angry and frustrated! ¹  Do not fret! That only leads to trouble!

Pour out your judgment ¹  on them! May your raging anger ²  overtake them!

You withdrew all your fury; you turned back from your raging anger. ¹ 

Will you stay mad at us forever? Will you remain angry throughout future generations? ¹ 

So I made a vow in my anger, ‘They will never enter into the resting place I had set aside for them.’” ¹ 

The Lord is compassionate and merciful; he is patient ¹  and demonstrates great loyal love. ² 

So the Lord was angry with his people ¹  and despised the people who belong to him. ² 

O sovereign Lord, ¹  at your right hand he strikes down ²  kings in the day he unleashes his anger. ³ 

ears, but cannot hear, noses, but cannot smell,

The Lord is merciful and compassionate; he is patient ¹  and demonstrates great loyal love. ² 

Like a gold ring ¹  in a pig’s snout ²  is ³  a beautiful woman who rejects ⁴  discretion. ⁵ 

A person who has a quick temper ¹  does foolish things, and a person with crafty schemes ²  is hated. ³
