They rejected ¹  the God who delivered them, the one who performed great deeds in Egypt,

You are my ¹  God and I will give you thanks! You are my God and I will praise you!

Give thanks to the God of heaven, for his loyal love endures!

May they praise God while they hold a two-edged sword in their hand, ¹ 

For the music director; according to the tune “Morning Doe;” ²  a psalm of David. My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? ³  I groan in prayer, but help seems far away. ⁴ 

With the rest of it he makes a god, his idol; he bows down to it and worships it. He prays to it, saying, ‘Rescue me, for you are my god!’

There he set up an altar and called it “The God of Israel is God.” ¹ 

Then he uttered this oracle: “O, who will survive when God does this! ¹ 

For the Lord your God is a consuming fire; he is a jealous God. ¹ 

The Lord alone was guiding him, ¹  no foreign god was with him.

There is no one like God, O Jeshurun, ¹  who rides through the sky ²  to help you, on the clouds in majesty.

The one true God completely vindicates me; ¹  he makes nations submit to me. ² 

Does God pervert ¹  justice? ²  Or does the Almighty pervert ³  what is right?

But ¹  if you will look ²  to God, and make your supplication ³  to the Almighty,

Such is the destiny ¹  of all who forget God; the hope of the godless ²  perishes,

But you even break off ¹  piety, ²  and hinder ³  meditation ⁴  before God.

Are God’s consolations ¹  too trivial for you; ²  or a word spoken ³  in gentleness to you?

when you turn your rage ¹  against God and allow such words to escape ²  from your mouth?

for he stretches out his hand against God, ¹  and vaunts himself ²  against the Almighty,

God abandons me to evil ¹  men, ²  and throws ³  me into the hands of wicked men.
