Then make sure you don’t speak evil words ¹  or use deceptive speech! ² 

The godly speak wise words and promote justice. ¹ 

Your tongue carries out your destructive plans; ¹  it is as effective as a sharp razor, O deceiver. ² 

You love to use all the words that destroy, ¹  and the tongue that deceives.

Their slander will bring about their demise. ¹  All who see them will shudder, ² 

May my tongue sing about your instructions, ¹  for all your commands are just.

I said, ¹  “O Lord, rescue me ²  from those who lie with their lips ³  and those who deceive with their tongue. ⁴ 

How will he severely punish you, you deceptive talker? ¹ 

Certainly ¹  my tongue does not frame a word without you, O Lord, being thoroughly aware of it. ² 

haughty eyes, ¹  a lying tongue, ²  and hands that shed innocent blood, ³ 

What the righteous say ¹  is like ²  the best ³  silver, but what the wicked think ⁴  is of little value. ⁵ 

The speech ¹  of the righteous bears the fruit of wisdom, ²  but the one who speaks perversion ³  will be destroyed. ⁴ 

Speaking recklessly ¹  is like the thrusts of a sword, but the words ²  of the wise bring ³  healing. ⁴ 

The one who tells the truth ¹  will endure forever, but the one who lies ²  will last only for a moment. ³ 

The tongue of the wise ¹  treats knowledge correctly, ²  but the mouth of the fool spouts out ³  folly.

Speech ¹  that heals ²  is like ³  a life-giving tree, ⁴  but a perverse tongue ⁵  breaks the spirit.

Death and life are in the power ¹  of the tongue, ²  and those who love its use ³  will eat its fruit.

Making a fortune ¹  by a lying tongue is like ²  a vapor driven back and forth; ³  they seek death. ⁴ 

Through patience ¹  a ruler can be persuaded, ²  and a soft tongue ³  can break a bone. ⁴ 

The north wind ¹  brings forth rain, and a gossiping tongue ²  brings forth ³  an angry look. ⁴
