Now a man from Baal Shalisha brought some food for the prophet ¹  – twenty loaves of bread made from the firstfruits of the barley harvest, as well as fresh ears of grain. ²  Elisha ³  said, “Set it before the people so they may eat.”

Then he said to me, “Son of man, I am about to remove the bread supply ¹  in Jerusalem. ²  They will eat their bread ration anxiously, and they will drink their water ration in terror

Then he washed his face and came out. With composure he said, ¹  “Set out the food.”

Asher’s ¹  food will be rich, ²  and he will provide delicacies ³  to royalty.

You are to set the Bread of the Presence ¹  on the table before me continually.

the table, all its utensils, and the Bread of the Presence;

He may eat both the most holy and the holy food of his God,

and you eat ¹  some of the food of the land, you must offer up a raised offering ²  to the Lord.

He then said to him, “Come home with me and eat something.”

So the prophet went back with him and ate and drank in his house. ¹ 

For my sighing comes in place of ¹  my food, ²  and my groanings ³  flow forth like water. ⁴ 

You gave the weary ¹  no water to drink and from the hungry you withheld food.

The earth, from which food comes, is overturned below as though by fire; ¹ 

By the brush ¹  they would gather ²  herbs from the salt marshes, ³  and the root of the broom tree was their food.

Man ate the food of the mighty ones. ¹  He sent them more than enough to eat. ² 

You have given them tears as food; ¹  you have made them drink tears by the measure. ² 

For I eat ashes as if they were bread, ¹  and mix my drink with my tears, ² 

He called down a famine upon the earth; he cut off all the food supply. ¹ 

to the one who gives food to all living things, ¹  for his loyal love endures.

He gives food to the animals, and to the young ravens when they chirp. ¹
