Is not their excess wealth ¹  taken away from them? ²  They die, ³  yet without attaining wisdom. ⁴ 

“Without a doubt you are the people, ¹  and wisdom will die with you. ² 

If only you would keep completely silent! ¹  For you, that would be wisdom. ² 

How you have advised the one without wisdom, and abundantly ¹  revealed your insight!

“But wisdom – where can it be found? Where is the place of understanding?

Of coral and jasper no mention will be made; the price ¹  of wisdom is more than pearls. ² 

“But wisdom – where does it come from? ¹  Where is the place of understanding?

I said to myself, ‘Age ¹  should speak, ²  and length of years ³  should make wisdom known.’

So do not say, ¹  ‘We have found wisdom! God will refute ²  him, not man!’

If not, you listen to me; be silent, and I will teach you wisdom.”

Who by wisdom can count the clouds, and who can tip over ¹  the water jars of heaven,

For God deprived her of wisdom, and did not impart understanding to her.

The godly speak wise words and promote justice. ¹ 

Look, ¹  you desire ²  integrity in the inner man; ³  you want me to possess wisdom. ⁴ 

So teach us to consider our mortality, ¹  so that we might live wisely. ² 

Fearing the Lord ¹  is the beginning ²  of moral knowledge, ³  but ⁴  fools ⁵  despise ⁶  wisdom and instruction. ⁷ 

For ¹  the Lord gives ²  wisdom, and from his mouth ³  comes ⁴  knowledge and understanding.

For wisdom will enter your heart, ¹  and moral knowledge ²  will be attractive ³  to you. ⁴ 

Blessed ¹  is the one ²  who finds ³  wisdom, and the one who obtains ⁴  understanding.

By wisdom the Lord laid the foundation of the earth; ¹  he established the heavens by understanding. ²
