There will be ¹  affliction and distress on everyone ²  who does evil, on the Jew first and also the Greek, ³ 

but ¹  glory and honor and peace for everyone who does good, for the Jew first and also the Greek.

For in the first place, when you come together as a church I hear there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it.

And they did this not just as we had hoped, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and to us by the will of God.

leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother and then come and present your gift.

You hypocrite! First remove the beam from your own eye, and then you can see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

The disciples asked him, ¹  “Why then do the experts in the law ²  say that Elijah must come first?”

Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup, ¹  so that the outside may become clean too!

He said to her, “Let the children be satisfied first, for it is not right to take the children’s bread and to throw it to the dogs.” ¹ 

Jesus ¹  said to another, “Follow me.” But he replied, ²  “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”

Yet ¹  another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but first let me say goodbye to my family.” ² 

For which of you, wanting to build a tower, doesn’t sit down ¹  first and compute the cost ²  to see if he has enough money to complete it?

And when you hear of wars and rebellions, ¹  do not be afraid. ²  For these things must happen first, but the end will not come at once.” ³ 

He first ¹  found his own brother Simon and told him, “We have found the Messiah!” ²  (which is translated Christ). ³ 

and said to him, “Everyone ¹  serves the good wine first, and then the cheaper ²  wine when the guests ³  are drunk. You have kept the good wine until now!”

“Our law doesn’t condemn ¹  a man unless it first hears from him and learns ²  what he is doing, does it?” ³ 

Jesus ¹  went back across the Jordan River ²  again to the place where John ³  had been baptizing at an earlier time, ⁴  and he stayed there.

Nicodemus, the man who had previously come to Jesus ¹  at night, ²  accompanied Joseph, ³  carrying a mixture of myrrh and aloes ⁴  weighing about seventy-five pounds. ⁵ 

God raised up ¹  his servant and sent him first to you, to bless you by turning ²  each one of you from your iniquities.” ³ 

First of all, ¹  I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed throughout the whole world.
