From ¹  the elder, ²  to Gaius ³  my dear brother, whom I love in truth. ⁴ 

“Here is ¹  my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I take great delight. ²  I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations.

Is ¹  there anyone among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?

The one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, and the one on whom it falls will be crushed.” ¹ 

Blessed is that slave whom the master finds at work ¹  when he comes.

During the feast the governor was accustomed to release one prisoner to the crowd, ¹  whomever they wanted.

Have you not read this scripture: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. ¹ 

Then he began to curse, and he swore with an oath, “I do not know this man you are talking about!”

Simon ¹  (whom he named Peter), and his brother Andrew; and James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, ² 

Blessed is that slave ¹  whom his master finds at work ²  when he returns.

Everyone who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, ¹  and the one on whom it falls will be crushed.” ² 

for you have had five husbands, and the man you are living with ¹  now is not your husband. This you said truthfully!”

Then some of the residents of Jerusalem ¹  began to say, “Isn’t this the man ²  they are trying ³  to kill?

So the sisters sent a message ¹  to Jesus, ²  “Lord, look, the one you love is sick.”

He said this ¹  to fulfill the word he had spoken, ²  “I have not lost a single one of those whom you gave me.” ³ 

(This happened ¹  to fulfill the word Jesus had spoken when he indicated ²  what kind of death he was going to die. ³ )

Then they prayed, ¹  “Lord, you know the hearts of all. Show us which one of these two you have chosen

For the man, on whom this miraculous sign ¹  of healing had been performed, ²  was over forty years old.

The God of our forefathers ¹  raised up Jesus, whom you seized and killed by hanging him on a tree. ² 

So he said, “Who are you, Lord?” He replied, “I am Jesus whom you are persecuting!
