You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.

For what does it benefit a person ¹  if he gains the whole world but forfeits his life? Or what can a person give in exchange for his life?

Now ¹  there was a man in Jerusalem ²  named Simeon who was righteous ³  and devout, looking for the restoration ⁴  of Israel, and the Holy Spirit ⁵  was upon him.

Is ¹  there anyone among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?

So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”

“For it is like a man going on a journey, who summoned his slaves ¹  and entrusted his property to them.

Now ¹  when it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who was also a disciple of Jesus. ² 

Then ¹  he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for people, ²  not people for the Sabbath.

Then ¹  Jesus ²  entered the synagogue ³  again, and a man was there who had a withered ⁴  hand.

He also said, “The kingdom of God is like someone who spreads seed on the ground.

Just as Jesus ¹  was getting out of the boat, a man with an unclean spirit ²  came from the tombs and met him. ³ 

Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘Man ¹  does not live by bread alone.’” ² 

Now ¹  in the synagogue ²  there was a man who had the spirit of an unclean ³  demon, and he cried out with a loud voice,

For what does it benefit a person ¹  if he gains the whole world but loses or forfeits himself?

But Jesus ¹  said to him, “A man once gave a great banquet ²  and invited ³  many guests. ⁴ 

“There was a rich man who dressed in purple ¹  and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously ²  every day.

Therefore he said, “A nobleman ¹  went to a distant country to receive ²  for himself a kingdom and then return. ³ 

Now a man was there who had been disabled for thirty-eight years. ¹ 

They asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Pick up your mat ¹  and walk’?” ² 

The man went away and informed the Jewish leaders ¹  that Jesus was the one who had made him well.
