After assembling all the chief priests and experts in the law, ¹  he asked them where the Christ ²  was to be born.

When ¹  the chief priests and the Pharisees ²  heard his parables, they realized that he was speaking about them.

The ¹  chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were trying to find false testimony against Jesus so that they could put him to death.

So ¹  the high priest stood up and said to him, “Have you no answer? What is this that they are testifying against you?”

The ¹  next day (which is after the day of preparation) the chief priests and the Pharisees ²  assembled before Pilate

Then ¹  Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests to betray Jesus into their hands. ² 

Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, “Why do we still need witnesses?

Now ¹  while Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the high priest’s slave girls ²  came by.

during the high priesthood ¹  of Annas and Caiaphas, the word ²  of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the wilderness. ³ 

The ¹  chief priests and the experts in the law ²  were trying to find some way ³  to execute ⁴  Jesus, ⁵  for they were afraid of the people. ⁶ 

He went away and discussed with the chief priests and officers of the temple guard ¹  how he might ²  betray Jesus, ³  handing him over to them. ⁴ 

Then ¹  they arrested ²  Jesus, ³  led him away, and brought him into the high priest’s house. ⁴  But Peter was following at a distance.

Then ¹  Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, “I find no basis for an accusation ²  against this man.”

and how our chief priests and rulers handed him over ¹  to be condemned to death, and crucified ²  him.

They ¹  brought him first to Annas, for he was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was high priest that year. ² 

While this was happening, ¹  the high priest questioned Jesus about his disciples and about his teaching. ² 

Annas the high priest was there, and Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and others who were members of the high priest’s family. ¹ 

Now the high priest rose up, and all those with him (that is, the religious party of the Sadducees ¹ ), ²  and they were filled with jealousy. ³ 

Meanwhile Saul, still breathing out threats ¹  to murder ²  the Lord’s disciples, went to the high priest

and here he has authority from the chief priests to imprison ¹  all who call on your name!” ²
