But ¹  his mother replied, ²  “No! He must be named ³  John.” ⁴ 

Jesus ¹  said to him, “You have answered correctly; ²  do this, and you will live.”

Then ¹  some of the experts in the law ²  answered, “Teacher, you have spoken well!” ³ 

So ¹  Herod ²  questioned him at considerable length; Jesus ³  gave him no answer.

Nicodemus replied, ¹  “How can these things be?” ² 

Jesus replied, ¹  “Do not complain about me to one another. ² 

The crowd ¹  answered, “You’re possessed by a demon! ²  Who is trying to kill you?” ³ 

Jesus replied, ¹  “I performed one miracle ²  and you are all amazed. ³ 

Then the Pharisees answered, ¹  “You haven’t been deceived too, have you? ² 

The man ¹  replied, ²  “And who is he, sir, that ³  I may believe in him?”

Thomas replied to him, ¹  “My Lord and my God!” ² 

for they heard them speaking in tongues and praising ¹  God. Then Peter said,

Jesus answered them, ¹  “Go tell John what you hear and see: ² 

Then some of the experts in the law ¹  along with some Pharisees ²  answered him, ³  “Teacher, we want to see a sign ⁴  from you.”

He ¹  answered, “The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man.

So ¹  he answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”

He ¹  said, “When evening comes you say, ‘It will be fair weather, because the sky is red,’

Simon Peter answered, ¹  “You are the Christ, ²  the Son of the living God.”

And the landowner ¹  replied to one of them, ²  ‘Friend, I am not treating you unfairly. Didn’t you agree with me to work for the standard wage? ³ 

No one ¹  was able to answer him a word, and from that day on no one dared to question him any longer.
