And just as Jesus ¹  was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens ²  splitting apart and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. ³ 

It has often thrown him into fire or water to destroy him. But if you are able to do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”

For I tell you the truth, ¹  whoever gives you a cup of water because ²  you bear Christ’s ³  name will never lose his reward.

John answered them, ¹  “I baptize with water. Among you stands one whom you do not recognize, ² 

I did not recognize ¹  him, but I came baptizing with water so that he could be revealed to Israel.” ² 

John ¹  was also baptizing at Aenon near Salim, ²  because water was plentiful there, and people were coming ³  to him ⁴  and being baptized.

“Sir,” ¹  the woman ²  said to him, “you have no bucket and the well ³  is deep; where then do you get this ⁴  living water? ⁵ 

The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw ¹  water.” ² 

let the one who believes in me drink. ¹  Just as the scripture says, ‘From within him ²  will flow rivers of living water.’” ³ 

He poured water into the washbasin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to dry them with the towel he had wrapped around himself. ¹ 

So he ordered the chariot to stop, and both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, ¹  and Philip baptized ²  him.

“No one can withhold the water for these people to be baptized, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did, ¹  can he?” ² 

And I remembered the word of the Lord, ¹  as he used to say, ²  ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ ³ 

let us draw near with a sincere heart in the assurance that faith brings, ¹  because we have had our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience ²  and our bodies washed in pure water.

Then ¹  the serpent spouted water like a river out of his mouth after the woman in an attempt to ²  sweep her away by a flood,

Then ¹  the third angel ²  poured out his bowl on the rivers and the springs of water, and they turned into blood.

Now ¹  I heard the angel of the waters saying: “You are just ²  – the one who is and who was, the Holy One – because you have passed these judgments, ³ 

Then ¹  the angel ²  said to me, “The waters you saw (where the prostitute is seated) are peoples, multitudes, ³  nations, and languages.

Then ¹  the angel ²  showed me the river of the water of life – water as clear as crystal – pouring out ³  from the throne of God and of the Lamb,

“I baptize you with water, for repentance, but the one coming after me is more powerful than I am – I am not worthy ¹  to carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. ²
