There is another ¹  who testifies about me, and I know the testimony he testifies about me is true.

The Jewish leaders ¹  replied, ²  “We are not going to stone you for a good deed ³  but for blasphemy, ⁴  because ⁵  you, a man, are claiming to be God.” ⁶ 

(Now Jesus had been talking about ¹  his death, but they ²  thought he had been talking about real sleep.) ³ 

As ¹  I was en route and near Damascus, ²  about noon a very bright ³  light from heaven ⁴  suddenly flashed ⁵  around me.

other than ¹  this one thing ²  I shouted out while I stood before ³  them: ‘I am on trial before you today concerning the resurrection of the dead.’” ⁴ 

Rather they had several points of disagreement ¹  with him about their own religion ²  and about a man named Jesus ³  who was dead, whom Paul claimed ⁴  to be alive.

Because I was at a loss ¹  how I could investigate these matters, ²  I asked if he were willing to go to Jerusalem and be tried ³  there on these charges. ⁴ 

Now when Jesus saw a large crowd ¹  around him, he gave orders to go to the other side of the lake. ² 

Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them about John the Baptist.

When it was about nine o’clock in the morning, ¹  he went out again and saw others standing around in the marketplace without work.

So they went. When ¹  he went out again about noon and three o’clock that afternoon, ²  he did the same thing.

When those hired about five o’clock came, each received a full day’s pay. ¹ 

Now ¹  when the other ten ²  heard this, ³  they were angry with the two brothers.

Simon’s mother-in-law was lying down, sick with a fever, so ¹  they spoke to Jesus ²  at once about her.

In the house once again, the disciples asked him about this.

Now ¹  when the other ten ²  heard this, ³  they became angry with James and John.

Now ¹  many have undertaken to compile an account ²  of the things ³  that have been fulfilled ⁴  among us,

so that you may know for certain ¹  the things you were taught. ² 

and all who heard it were astonished ¹  at what the shepherds said.

for it is written, ‘He will command his angels concerning you, to protect you,’ ¹
