Then ¹  they came to Capernaum. ²  After Jesus ³  was inside the house he asked them, “What were you discussing on the way?”

Then some Pharisees ¹  came, and to test him ²  they asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his ³  wife?” ⁴ 

Sadducees ¹  (who say there is no resurrection) ²  also came to him and asked him, ³ 

So Pilate asked him again, ¹  “Have you nothing to say? See how many charges they are bringing against you!”

Pilate was surprised that he was already dead. He ¹  called the centurion and asked him if he had been dead for some time.

Now ¹  a certain ruler ²  asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” ³ 

So ¹  Jesus stopped and ordered the beggar ²  to be brought to him. When the man ³  came near, Jesus ⁴  asked him,

Now some Sadducees ¹  (who contend that there is no resurrection) ²  came to him.

They ¹  blindfolded him and asked him repeatedly, ²  “Prophesy! Who hit you?” ³ 

A ¹  man was there who had a withered ²  hand. And they asked Jesus, ³  “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?” ⁴  so that they could accuse him.

The disciples asked him, ¹  “Why then do the experts in the law ²  say that Elijah must come first?”

He asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered him, ¹  “You are the Christ.” ² 

Jesus ¹  asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood.

Then, ¹  after he went into the house, his disciples asked him privately, “Why couldn’t we cast it out?”

Now ¹  as Jesus ²  was starting out on his way, someone ran up to him, fell on his knees, and said, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” ³ 

Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one question. Answer me and I will tell you by what authority I do these things:

Now ¹  one of the experts in the law ²  came and heard them debating. When he saw that Jesus ³  answered them well, he asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?”

So ¹  while he was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, ²  and Andrew asked him privately,

Then ¹  the high priest stood up before them ²  and asked Jesus, “Have you no answer? What is this that they are testifying against you?”

So ¹  Pilate asked him, “Are you the king ²  of the Jews?” He replied, ³  “You say so.” ⁴
