Therefore if you regard me as a partner, accept him as you would me.

“Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. The one who comes to me will never go hungry, and the one who believes in me will never be thirsty. ¹ 

Then they began asking ¹  him, “Who is your father?” Jesus answered, “You do not know either me or my Father. If you knew me you would know my Father too.” ² 

But while John was completing his mission, ¹  he said repeatedly, ²  ‘What do you think I am? I am not he. But look, one is coming after me. I am not worthy to untie the sandals on his feet!’ ³ 

And whoever welcomes ¹  a child like this in my name welcomes me.

and the one who lives and believes in me will never die. ¹  Do you believe this?”

Jesus said, ¹  “This voice has not come for my benefit ²  but for yours.

“Do not let your hearts be distressed. ¹  You believe in God; ²  believe also in me.

“If the world hates you, be aware ¹  that it hated me first. ² 

“I am not praying ¹  only on their behalf, but also on behalf of those who believe ²  in me through their testimony, ³ 

Jesus replied, ¹  “I told you that I am he. If you are looking for ²  me, let these men ³  go.” ⁴ 

Then the commanding officer ¹  sent the young man away, directing him, ²  “Tell no one that you have reported ³  these things to me.”

But if anyone has caused sadness, he has not saddened me alone, but to some extent (not to exaggerate) ¹  he has saddened all of you as well.

I want you to know, brothers and sisters, ¹  that my situation has actually turned out to advance the gospel: ² 

Tychicus, a dear brother, faithful minister, and fellow slave ¹  in the Lord, will tell you all the news about me. ² 

Then Peter came to him and said, “Lord, how many times must I forgive my brother ¹  who sins against me? As many as seven times?”

When ¹  Jesus learned of this, he said to them, “Why are you bothering this woman? She ²  has done a good service for me.

For you will always have the poor with you, and you can do good for them whenever you want. But you will not always have me! ¹ 

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed ¹  me to proclaim good news ²  to the poor. ³  He has sent me ⁴  to proclaim release ⁵  to the captives and the regaining of sight ⁶  to the blind, to set free ⁷  those who are oppressed, ⁸
