If ¹  I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unproductive.

If someone speaks in a tongue, it should be two, or at the most three, one after the other, and someone must interpret.

Then ¹  they ²  told me: “You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, ³  languages, and kings.”

After Jesus ¹  took him aside privately, away from the crowd, he put his fingers in the man’s ²  ears, and after spitting, he touched his tongue. ³ 

All ¹  of them were filled with the Holy Spirit, and they began to speak in other languages ²  as the Spirit enabled them. ³ 

Therefore my heart was glad and my tongue rejoiced; my body ¹  also will live in hope,

and when Paul placed ¹  his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came ²  upon them, and they began to speak ³  in tongues and to prophesy. ⁴ 

For it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee will bow to me, and every tongue will give praise to God.” ¹ 

And God has placed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, gifts of healing, helps, gifts of leadership, different kinds of tongues.

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but I do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.

It is the same for you. If you do not speak clearly with your tongue, how will anyone know what is being said? For you will be speaking into the air.

but in the church I want to speak five words with my mind to instruct others, rather than ten thousand words in a tongue.

So then, tongues are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers. Prophecy, however, is not for unbelievers but for believers.

So if the whole church comes together and all speak in tongues, and unbelievers or uninformed people enter, will they not say that you have lost your minds?

If someone thinks he is religious yet does not bridle his tongue, and so deceives his heart, his religion is futile.

So too the tongue is a small part of the body, ¹  yet it has great pretensions. ²  Think ³  how small a flame sets a huge forest ablaze.

For the one who wants to love life and see good days must keep ¹  his tongue from evil and his lips from uttering deceit.

The beast ¹  was permitted to go to war against the saints and conquer them. ²  He was given ruling authority ³  over every tribe, people, ⁴  language, and nation,

Then ¹  the angel ²  said to me, “The waters you saw (where the prostitute is seated) are peoples, multitudes, ³  nations, and languages.

So ¹  he called out, ²  ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus ³  to dip the tip of his finger ⁴  in water and cool my tongue, because I am in anguish ⁵  in this fire.’ ⁶
