(Now the man Moses was very humble, ¹  more so than any man on the face of the earth.)

What do you want? Shall I come to you with a rod of discipline ¹  or with love and a spirit of gentleness?

Likewise, the most ¹  tender and delicate of your women, who would never think of putting even the sole of her foot on the ground because of her daintiness, ²  will turn against her beloved husband, her sons and daughters,

Before this I had been like a docile lamb ready to be led to the slaughter. I did not know they were making plans to kill me. ¹  I did not know they were saying, ²  “Let’s destroy the tree along with its fruit! ³  Let’s remove Jeremiah ⁴  from the world of the living so people will not even be reminded of him any more.” ⁵ 

The man among you who is by nature tender and sensitive will turn against his brother, his beloved wife, and his remaining children.

a loving doe, ¹  a graceful deer; may her breasts satisfy you at all times, may you be captivated ²  by her love always.

Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with a heart of mercy, ¹  kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience,

bearing with one another and forgiving ¹  one another, if someone happens to have ²  a complaint against anyone else. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also forgive others. ³ 

He will not look on the streams, ¹  the rivers, which are the torrents ²  of honey and butter. ³ 

Will it make numerous supplications to you, ¹  will it speak to you with tender words? ² 

He calmed the storm, ¹  and the waves ²  grew silent.

Although ¹  he is scornful to arrogant scoffers, ²  yet ³  he shows favor to the humble. ⁴ 

Before destruction the heart ¹  of a person is proud, but humility comes ²  before honor. ³ 

A person’s pride ¹  will bring him low, ²  but one who has a lowly spirit ³  will gain honor.

gentleness, and ¹  self-control. Against such things there is no law.

The king gave this order to Joab, Abishai, and Ittai: “For my sake deal gently with the young man Absalom.” Now the entire army was listening when the king gave all the leaders this order concerning Absalom.

“At that time the people of Judah and Jerusalem ¹  will be told, ‘A scorching wind will sweep down from the hilltops in the desert on ²  my dear people. ³  It will not be a gentle breeze for winnowing the grain and blowing away the chaff. ⁴ 

Rejoice greatly, daughter of Zion! Shout, daughter of Jerusalem! Look! Your king is coming to you: he is legitimate ¹  and victorious, ²  humble and riding on a donkey ³  – on a young donkey, the foal of a female donkey.

Notice therefore the kindness and harshness of God – harshness toward those who have fallen, but ¹  God’s kindness toward you, provided you continue in his kindness; ²  otherwise you also will be cut off.

Now I, Paul, appeal to you ¹  personally ²  by the meekness and gentleness ³  of Christ (I who am meek ⁴  when present among ⁵  you, but am full of courage ⁶  toward you when away!) –
