Does the family ¹  of Jacob say, ²  ‘The Lord’s patience ³  can’t be exhausted – he would never do such things’? ⁴  To be sure, my commands bring a reward for those who obey them, ⁵ 

But when Elihu saw ¹  that the three men had no further reply, ²  he became very angry.

I am numb with pain and severely battered; ¹  I groan loudly because of the anxiety I feel. ² 

Please stop wounding me! ¹  You have almost beaten me to death! ² 

For ¹  I am like a wineskin ²  dried up in smoke. ³  I do not forget your statutes.

The toil of a stupid fool ¹  wears him out, ²  because he does not even know the way to the city. ³ 

“My people, how have I wronged you? ¹  How have I wearied you? Answer me!

Then he went up with them into the boat, and the wind ceased. They were completely astonished,

I am also aware ¹  that you have persisted steadfastly, ²  endured much for the sake of my name, and have not grown weary.

Then David and the men ¹  who were with him wept loudly ²  until they could weep no more. ³ 

The jar of flour was never empty and the jug of oil never ran out, just as the Lord had promised ¹  through Elijah.

He stretched out ¹  and fell asleep under the shrub. All of a sudden an angelic messenger ²  touched him and said, “Get up and eat.”

I am exhausted as I groan; all night long I drench my bed in tears; ¹  my tears saturate the cushion beneath me. ² 

In the past he said to them, ¹  “This is where security can be found. Provide security for the one who is exhausted! This is where rest can be found.” ²  But they refused to listen.

So ¹  he got up and rebuked ²  the wind, and said to the sea, ³  “Be quiet! Calm down!” Then ⁴  the wind stopped, and it was dead calm.

Therefore we do not despair, ¹  but even if our physical body ²  is wearing away, our inner person ³  is being renewed day by day.

And we urge you, brothers and sisters, ¹  admonish the undisciplined, comfort the discouraged, help the weak, be patient toward all.

Think of him who endured such opposition against himself by sinners, so that you may not grow weary in your souls and give up.

Then Jael wife of Heber took a tent peg in one hand and a hammer in the other. ¹  She crept up on him, drove the tent peg through his temple into the ground ²  while he was asleep from exhaustion, ³  and he died.

The king asked Ziba, “Why did you bring these things?” ¹  Ziba replied, “The donkeys are for the king’s family to ride on, the loaves of bread ²  and the summer fruit are for the attendants to eat, and the wine is for those who get exhausted in the desert.” ³
