This ¹  took place to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet: ² 

In ¹  past ²  generations he allowed all the nations ³  to go their own ways,

I wrote you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people.

but to repeat the text cited earlier: ¹  “They will never enter my rest!”

In it ¹  he went and preached to the spirits in prison, ² 

There was a famine in the land, subsequent to the earlier famine that occurred ¹  in the days of Abraham. ²  Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines at Gerar.

This is just what I told ¹  Pharaoh: God has shown Pharaoh what he is about to do.

So now, let the power of my Lord ¹  be great, just as you have said,

I wrote ¹  the former ²  account, ³  Theophilus, ⁴  about all that Jesus began to do and teach

For Christ is the end of the law, with the result that there is righteousness for everyone who believes.
