Now from noon until three, ¹  darkness came over all the land. ² 

Therefore see to it ¹  that the light in you ²  is not darkness.

He shrouded himself in darkness, ¹  in thick rain clouds. ² 

These men ¹  change ²  night into day; they say, ³  ‘The light is near in the face of darkness.’ ⁴ 

(9:1) The people walking in darkness see a bright light; ¹  light shines on those who live in a land of deep darkness. ² 

¹ The Lord said to Moses, “Extend your hand toward heaven ²  so that there may be ³  darkness over the land of Egypt, a darkness so thick it can be felt.” ⁴ 

God saw ¹  that the light was good, ²  so God separated ³  the light from the darkness.

He shrouded himself in darkness, ¹  in thick rain clouds. ² 

That day ¹  – let it be darkness; ²  let not God on high regard ³  it, nor let light shine ⁴  on it!

But when I hoped for good, trouble came; when I expected light, then darkness came.

“In what direction ¹  does light reside, and darkness, where is its place,

You cause my friends and neighbors to keep their distance; ¹  those who know me leave me alone in the darkness. ² 

the plague that comes in the darkness, or the disease that comes at noon. ¹ 

In the darkness a light ¹  shines for the godly, for each one who is merciful, compassionate, and just. ² 

I realized that wisdom is preferable to folly, ¹  just as light is preferable to darkness:

And throw that worthless slave into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

It was now ¹  about noon, ²  and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, ³ 

Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but rather ¹  expose them. ² 

Those who call evil good and good evil are as good as dead, ¹  who turn darkness into light and light into darkness, who turn bitter into sweet and sweet into bitter. ² 

They meet with darkness in the daytime, ¹  and grope about ²  in the noontime as if it were night. ³
