ג (Gimel) He has walled me in ¹  so that I cannot get out; he has weighted me down with heavy prison chains. ² 

Whoever does not carry his own cross ¹  and follow ²  me cannot be my disciple.

If those people to whom the word of God came were called ‘gods’ (and the scripture cannot be broken), ¹ 

Now let the king issue a written interdict ¹  so that it cannot be altered, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be changed. ² 

In the north ¹  when he is at work, ²  I do not see him; ³  when he turns ⁴  to the south, I see no trace of him.

I will make the children who follow one another in the line of my servant David very numerous. I will also make the Levites who minister before me very numerous. I will make them all as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sands which are on the seashore.’” ¹ 

If ¹  he tears down, it cannot be rebuilt; if he imprisons a person, there is no escape. ² 

He has blocked ¹  my way so I cannot pass, and has set darkness ²  over my paths.

hands, but cannot touch, feet, but cannot walk. They cannot even clear their throats. ¹ 

You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill cannot be hidden.

A good tree is not able to bear bad fruit, nor a bad tree to bear good fruit.

You will look for me ¹  but will not find me, and where I am you cannot come.”

Similarly good works are also obvious, and the ones that are not cannot remain hidden.

Is there any falsehood ¹  on my lips? Can my mouth ²  not discern evil things? ³ 

You held my eyelids open; ¹  I was troubled and could not speak. ² 

Another ¹  said, ‘I just got married, and I cannot come.’ ² 

The guardian said, “Then I am unable to redeem it, for I would ruin my own inheritance ¹  in that case. You may exercise my redemption option, for I am unable to redeem it.” ² 

“You should fear me!” says the Lord. “You should tremble in awe before me! ¹  I made the sand to be a boundary for the sea, a permanent barrier that it can never cross. Its waves may roll, but they can never prevail. They may roar, but they can never cross beyond that boundary.” ² 

Look, the Lord’s hand is not too weak ¹  to deliver you; his ear is not too deaf to hear you. ² 

But evil people are like thorns – all of them are tossed away, for they cannot be held in the hand.
