Pharaoh said to Joseph’s ¹  brothers, “What is your occupation?” They said to Pharaoh, “Your servants take care of flocks, just as our ancestors did.” ² 

The Lover to His Beloved: O my beloved, you are like ¹  a ²  mare ³  among Pharaoh’s stallions. ⁴ 

Then Pharaoh summoned ¹  Joseph. So they brought him quickly out of the dungeon; he shaved himself, changed his clothes, and came before Pharaoh.

Now Joseph was 30 years old ¹  when he began serving ²  Pharaoh king of Egypt. Joseph was commissioned by ³  Pharaoh and was in charge of ⁴  all the land of Egypt.

So Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh. Each ¹  of the Egyptians sold his field, for the famine was severe. ²  So the land became Pharaoh’s.

When ¹  Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh, they did so, just as the Lord had commanded them – Aaron threw ²  down his staff before Pharaoh and his servants and it became a snake. ³ 

The magicians said ¹  to Pharaoh, “It is the finger ²  of God!” But Pharaoh’s heart remained hard, ³  and he did not listen to them, just as the Lord had predicted.

But the Lord struck Pharaoh and his household with severe diseases ¹  because of Sarai, Abram’s wife.

Pharaoh was enraged with his two officials, ¹  the cupbearer and the baker,

At the end of two full years ¹  Pharaoh had a dream. ²  As he was standing by the Nile,

Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “In my dream I was standing ¹  by the edge of the Nile.

“See here,” Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I place ¹  you in authority over all the land of Egypt.” ² 

That same day Pharaoh commanded ¹  the slave masters and foremen ²  who were ³  over the people: ⁴ 

When they went out from Pharaoh, they encountered Moses and Aaron standing there to meet them, ¹ 

“Go, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt that he must release ¹  the Israelites from his land.”

But Moses said before the Lord, “Since I speak with difficulty, ¹  why should Pharaoh listen to me?”

Now Moses was eighty years old and Aaron was eighty-three years old when they spoke to Pharaoh.

Yet Pharaoh’s heart became hard, ¹  and he did not listen to them, just as the Lord had predicted.

¹ The Lord said to Moses, “Pharaoh’s heart is hard; ²  he refuses to release ³  the people.

Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Go, sacrifice to your God within the land.” ¹
