So the Jewish leaders ¹  were looking for him at the feast, asking, “Where is he?” ² 

Thus the people who had come to mourn ¹  said, “Look how much he loved him!”

The Jews struck all their enemies with the sword, bringing death and destruction, and they did as they pleased with their enemies.

Letters were sent ¹  to all the Jews in the hundred and twenty-seven provinces of the empire of Ahasuerus – words of true peace ²  –

Above ¹  his head they put the charge against him, ²  which read: ³  “This is Jesus, the king of the Jews.”

So Pilate asked them, ¹  “Do you want me to release the king of the Jews for you?”

There was also an inscription ¹  over him, “This is the king of the Jews.”

But the Jews who refused to believe ¹  stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds ²  against the brothers.

But the population ¹  of the city was divided; some ²  sided with the Jews, and some with the apostles.

for he refuted the Jews vigorously ¹  in public debate, ²  demonstrating from the scriptures that the Christ ³  was Jesus. ⁴ 

testifying ¹  to both Jews and Greeks about repentance toward God and faith in our Lord Jesus. ² 

For this reason the Jews seized me in the temple courts ¹  and were trying to kill me.

but we preach about a crucified Christ, ¹  a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles.

Throughout every province and throughout every city where the king’s edict and his law arrived, the Jews experienced happiness and joy, banquets and holidays. Many of the resident peoples ¹  pretended ²  to be Jews, because the fear of the Jews had overcome them. ³ 

Now the Jewish feast of Passover ¹  was near, so Jesus went up to Jerusalem. ² 

Now a certain man, a Pharisee ¹  named Nicodemus, who was a member of the Jewish ruling council, ² 

However, no one spoke openly about him for fear of the Jewish leaders. ¹ 

Another sharp division took place among the Jewish people ¹  because of these words.
