and then the third married her, and in this same way all seven died, leaving no children.

While he was on his way down, ¹  his slaves ²  met him and told him that his son was going to live.

Not only that, but when Rebekah had conceived children by one man, ¹  our ancestor Isaac –

As you know, we treated each one of you as a father treats his own children,

The one who says he is in the light but still hates ¹  his fellow Christian ²  is still in the darkness.

¹ It happened ²  at midnight – the Lord attacked all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the prison, and all the firstborn of the cattle.

A man who is all alone with no companion, ¹  he has no children nor siblings; ²  yet there is no end to all his toil, and he ³  is never satisfied with riches. He laments, ⁴  “For whom am I toiling and depriving myself ⁵  of pleasure?” ⁶  This also is futile and a burdensome task! ⁷ 

Then she gave birth ¹  to his brother Abel. ²  Abel took care of the flocks, while Cain cultivated the ground. ³ 

Now Sarai, ¹  Abram’s wife, had not given birth to any children, ²  but she had an Egyptian servant ³  named Hagar. ⁴ 

Is anything impossible ¹  for the Lord? I will return to you when the season comes round again and Sarah will have a son.” ² 

So Sarah became pregnant ¹  and bore Abraham a son in his old age at the appointed time that God had told him.

She went on to say, ¹  “Who would ²  have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have given birth to a son for him in his old age!”

Then Rachel said, “I have fought a desperate struggle with my sister, but I have won.” ¹  So she named him Naphtali. ² 

With her dying breath, ¹  she named him Ben-Oni. ²  But his father called him Benjamin instead. ³ 

He named the second child Ephraim, ¹  saying, ²  “Certainly ³  God has made me fruitful in the land of my suffering.”

Joseph also provided food for his father, his brothers, and all his father’s household, according to the number of their little children.

Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might and the beginning of my strength, outstanding in dignity, outstanding in power.

“Set apart ¹  to me every firstborn male – the first offspring of every womb ²  among the Israelites, whether human or animal; it is mine.” ³ 

You must not have sexual intercourse with the daughter of your father’s wife born of your father; she is your sister. You must not have intercourse with her. ¹
