Bilhah became pregnant ¹  and gave Jacob a son. ² 

Bilhah, Rachel’s servant, became pregnant again and gave Jacob another son. ¹ 

God paid attention ¹  to Leah; she became pregnant ²  and gave Jacob a son for the fifth time. ³ 

Leah became pregnant again and gave Jacob a son for the sixth time. ¹ 

On ¹  the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin ²  must be circumcised.

His daughter-in-law, the wife of Phineas, was pregnant and close to giving birth. When she heard that the ark of God was captured and that her father-in-law and her husband were dead, she doubled over and gave birth. But her labor pains were too much for her.

Yes, you would gamble ¹  for the fatherless, and auction off ²  your friend.

They conceive ¹  trouble and bring forth evil; their belly ²  prepares deception.”

you sent widows away empty-handed, and the arms ¹  of the orphans you crushed. ² 

He preys on ¹  the barren and childless woman, ²  and does not treat the widow well.

If I ate my morsel of bread myself, and did not share any of it with orphans ¹  –

all flesh would perish together and human beings would return to dust.

O children ¹  of Abraham, ²  God’s ³  servant, you descendants ⁴  of Jacob, God’s ⁵  chosen ones!

If ¹  someone pampers his servant from youth, he will be a weakling ²  in the end.

This is what the Lord says: “Because the Ammonites have committed three crimes ¹  – make that four! ²  – I will not revoke my decree of judgment. ³  They ripped open Gilead’s pregnant women ⁴  so they could expand their territory.

“I will pour out on the kingship ¹  of David and the population of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication so that they will look to me, ²  the one they have pierced. They will lament for him as one laments for an only son, and there will be a bitter cry for him like the bitter cry for a firstborn. ³ 

When he had contemplated this, an ¹  angel of the Lord ²  appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.

Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? ¹
