because they did not understand about the loaves, but their hearts were hardened.

But they were filled with mindless rage ¹  and began debating with one another what they would do ²  to Jesus.

For the law was given through Moses, but ¹  grace and truth came about through Jesus Christ.

And with this confidence I intended to come to you first so that you would get a second opportunity to see us, ¹ 

When reading this, ¹  you will be able to ²  understand my insight into this secret ³  of Christ.

Instead, ¹  be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ also forgave you. ² 

Now may the Lord direct your hearts toward the love of God ¹  and the endurance of Christ. ² 

On this topic we have much to say ¹  and it is difficult to explain, since you have become sluggish ²  in hearing.

Yet the one these things are spoken about belongs to ¹  a different tribe, and no one from that tribe ²  has ever officiated at the altar.

Again, ¹  I observed this on the earth: ²  the race is not always ³  won by the swiftest, the battle is not always won by the strongest; prosperity ⁴  does not always belong to those who are the wisest, wealth does not always belong to those who are the most discerning, nor does success ⁵  always come to those with the most knowledge – for time and chance may overcome ⁶  them all.

But at the end of the appointed time ¹  I, Nebuchadnezzar, looked up ²  toward heaven, and my sanity returned to me. I extolled the Most High, and I praised and glorified the one who lives forever. For his authority is an everlasting authority, and his kingdom extends from one generation to the next.

Even now they persist in sin! ¹  They make metal images for themselves, idols that they skillfully fashion ²  from their own silver; all of them are nothing but the work of craftsmen! There is a saying about them: ³  “Those who sacrifice ⁴  to the calf idol are calf kissers!” ⁵ 

So Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Because God has enabled you to know all this, there is no one as wise and discerning ¹  as you are!

The Lord’s messenger said to him, “You should not ask me my name, because you cannot comprehend it.” ¹ 

David said, ¹  “All of this I put in writing as the Lord directed me and gave me insight regarding the details of the blueprints.” ² 

They read from the book of God’s law, explaining it ¹  and imparting insight. Thus the people ²  gained understanding from what was read.

The Lord looks down from heaven ¹  at the human race, ²  to see if there is anyone who is wise ³  and seeks God. ⁴

All those who behave wickedly ¹  do not understand ²  – those who devour my people as if they were eating bread, and do not call out to God.

Of what ¹  use is money in the hand of a fool, ²  since he has no intention ³  of acquiring wisdom? ⁴
