When ¹  you pray, do not babble repetitiously like the Gentiles, because they think that by their many words they will be heard.

Then ¹  the entire town ²  came out to meet Jesus. And when they saw him, they begged him to leave their region.

Then Jesus went throughout all the towns ¹  and villages, teaching in their synagogues, ²  preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and sickness. ³ 

Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. ¹  The one who has ears had better listen! ² 

When the people ¹  there recognized him, they sent word into all the surrounding area, and they brought all their sick to him.

“Why do your disciples disobey the tradition of the elders? For they don’t wash their ¹  hands when they eat.” ² 

When ¹  his fellow slaves saw what had happened, they were very upset and went and told their lord everything that had taken place.

But Jesus called them and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in high positions use their authority over them.

A ¹  very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road. Others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.

The ¹  king was furious! He sent his soldiers, and they put those murderers to death ²  and set their city ³  on fire.

“At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.

Going on a little farther, he saw James, the son of Zebedee, and John his brother in their ¹  boat mending nets.

Jesus ¹  was going through the grain fields on a Sabbath, and his disciples began to pick some heads of wheat ²  as they made their way.

He instructed them to take nothing for the journey except a staff ¹  – no bread, no bag, ²  no money in their belts –

But he saw through their hypocrisy and said ¹  to them, “Why are you testing me? Bring me a denarius ²  and let me look at it.”

For they all gave out of their wealth. ¹  But she, out of her poverty, put in what she had to live on, everything she had.” ² 

When he came again he found them sleeping; they could not keep their eyes open. ¹  And they did not know what to tell him.

Then ¹  some began to spit on him, and to blindfold him, and to strike him with their fists, saying, “Prophesy!” The guards also took him and beat ²  him.

Those who passed by defamed him, shaking their heads and saying, “Aha! You who can destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days,

After this he appeared in a different form to two of them while they were on their way to the country.
