In those days ¹  Mary got up and went hurriedly into the hill country, to a town of Judah, ² 

the son of Simeon, the son of Judah, the son of Joseph, the son of Jonam, the son of Eliakim,

Now the descendants of the Kenite, Moses’ father-in-law, went up with the people of Judah from the City of Date Palm Trees to Arad in the desert of Judah, ¹  located in the Negev. ²  They went and lived with the people of Judah. ³ 

I made Jerusalem ¹  and the cities of Judah, its kings and its officials drink it. ²  I did it so Judah would become a ruin. I did it so Judah, its kings, and its officials would become an object ³  of horror and of hissing scorn, an example used in curses. ⁴  Such is already becoming the case! ⁵ 

I asked, “What are these going to do?” He answered, “These horns are the ones that have scattered Judah so that there is no one to be seen. ¹  But the blacksmiths have come to terrify Judah’s enemies ²  and cut off the horns of the nations that have thrust themselves against the land of Judah in order to scatter its people.” ³ 

So he returned to Judah and said, “I couldn’t find her. Moreover, the men of the place said, ‘There has been no cult prostitute here.’”

But Judah said to him, “The man solemnly warned ¹  us, ‘You will not see my face ²  unless your brother is with you.’

So Judah and his brothers ¹  came back to Joseph’s house. He was still there, ²  and they threw themselves to the ground before him.

The sons of Judah: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah (but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan). The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.

Judah, ¹  your brothers will praise you. Your hand will be on the neck of your enemies, your father’s sons will bow down before you.

Moses said to the Israelites, “See, the Lord has chosen ¹  Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah.

Now Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, made everything that the Lord had commanded Moses;

All those numbered of the camp of Judah, according to their divisions, are 186,400. They will travel ¹  at the front.

“The following tribes ¹  must stand to bless the people on Mount Gerizim when you cross the Jordan: Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin.

and all of Naphtali, the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the distant ¹  sea,

He then made the clans of Judah approach and the clan of the Zerahites was selected. He made the clan of the Zerahites approach and Zabdi ¹  was selected. ² 

These cities were located at the southern extremity of Judah’s tribal land near the border of Edom: ¹  Kabzeel, Eder, Jagur,

Divide it into seven regions. ¹  Judah will stay ²  in its territory in the south, and the family ³  of Joseph in its territory in the north.

They assigned them Kiriath Arba (Arba was the father of Anak), that is, Hebron, in the hill country of Judah, along with its surrounding grazing areas.

The Lord said, “The men of Judah should take the lead. ¹  Be sure of this! I am handing the land over to them.” ²
