The one who associates ¹  with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm. ² 

Listen to my instruction ¹  so that you may be wise, ²  and do not neglect it.

Although they claimed ¹  to be wise, they became fools

There are four things on earth that are small, ¹  but they are exceedingly wise: ² 

When a scorner is punished, the naive ¹  becomes wise; when a wise person is instructed, ²  he gains knowledge.

Guard against self-deception, each of you. ¹  If someone among you thinks he is wise in this age, let him become foolish so that he can become wise.

A wise person’s heart ¹  makes his speech wise ²  and it adds persuasiveness ³  to his words. ⁴ 

Men of understanding say to me – any wise man listening to me says –

The wise inherit honor, but he holds fools up ¹  to public contempt. ² 

The wise person ¹  accepts instructions, ²  but the one who speaks foolishness ³  will come to ruin. ⁴ 

Those who are wise ¹  store up ²  knowledge, but foolish speech ³  leads to imminent ⁴  destruction.

The crown of the wise is their riches, ¹  but the folly ²  of fools is folly.

The tongue of the wise ¹  treats knowledge correctly, ²  but the mouth of the fool spouts out ³  folly.

The scorner does not love ¹  one who corrects him; ²  he will not go to ³  the wise.

The person ¹  who hears the reproof that leads to life ²  is at home ³  among the wise. ⁴ 

A wise king separates out ¹  the wicked; he turns the threshing wheel over them. ² 

My child, ¹  if your heart is wise, then my heart also will be glad;

Listen, my child, ¹  and be wise, and guide your heart on the right way.

A wise warrior ¹  is strong, ²  and a man of knowledge makes his strength stronger;

Surely oppression ¹  can turn a wise person into a fool; ²  likewise, ³  a bribe corrupts ⁴  the heart. ⁵
