Wisdom is supreme ¹  – so ²  acquire wisdom, and whatever you acquire, ³  acquire understanding! ⁴ 

Solomon was wiser than all the men of the east and all the sages of Egypt. ¹ 

Wisdom ¹  calls out ²  in the street, she shouts loudly ³  in the plazas; ⁴ 

For wisdom provides ¹  protection, ²  just as ³  money provides protection. ⁴  But the advantage of knowledge is this: Wisdom preserves the life ⁵  of its owner.

My child, ²  be attentive to my wisdom, pay close attention ³  to my understanding,

So I concluded that wisdom is better than might, ¹  but a poor man’s wisdom is despised; no one ever listens ²  to his advice. ³ 

Is not wisdom found among the aged? ¹  Does not long life bring understanding?

“With God ¹  are wisdom and power; counsel and understanding are his. ² 

“But wisdom – where can it be found? Where is the place of understanding?

“But wisdom – where does it come from? ¹  Where is the place of understanding?

If not, you listen to me; be silent, and I will teach you wisdom.”

For ¹  the Lord gives ²  wisdom, and from his mouth ³  comes ⁴  knowledge and understanding.

By wisdom the Lord laid the foundation of the earth; ¹  he established the heavens by understanding. ² 

Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” ¹  and call understanding a close relative,

Does not wisdom call out? Does not understanding raise her voice?

“I, wisdom, live with prudence, ¹  and I find ²  knowledge and discretion.

Wisdom has built her house; she has carved out its seven pillars. ² 

By ¹  wisdom a house is built, ²  and through understanding it is established;

I have not learned wisdom, nor do I have knowledge ¹  of the Holy One. ² 

in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
