The north wind ¹  brings forth rain, and a gossiping tongue ²  brings forth ³  an angry look. ⁴ 

The Lord’s spirit spoke through me; his word was on my tongue.

Your tongue carries out your destructive plans; ¹  it is as effective as a sharp razor, O deceiver. ² 

May my tongue sing about your instructions, ¹  for all your commands are just.

haughty eyes, ¹  a lying tongue, ²  and hands that shed innocent blood, ³ 

by keeping ¹  you from the evil woman, ²  from the smooth tongue of ³  the loose woman. ⁴ 

my ¹  lips will not speak wickedness, and my tongue will whisper ²  no deceit.

Then make sure you don’t speak evil words ¹  or use deceptive speech! ² 

You love to use all the words that destroy, ¹  and the tongue that deceives.

The one who guards his mouth and his tongue ¹  keeps his life ²  from troubles. ³ 

A lying tongue ¹  hates those crushed by it, and a flattering mouth works ruin. ² 

Speech ¹  that heals ²  is like ³  a life-giving tree, ⁴  but a perverse tongue ⁵  breaks the spirit.

But no human being can subdue the tongue; it is a restless ¹  evil, full of deadly poison.

“If ¹  evil is sweet in his mouth and he hides it under his tongue, ² 

See now, I have opened ¹  my mouth; my tongue in my mouth has spoken. ² 

You do damage with words, ¹  and use your tongue to deceive. ² 

I cried out to him for help ¹  and praised him with my tongue. ² 

Certainly ¹  my tongue does not frame a word without you, O Lord, being thoroughly aware of it. ² 

The tongue of the wise ¹  treats knowledge correctly, ²  but the mouth of the fool spouts out ³  folly.

The intentions of the heart ¹  belong to a man, ²  but the answer of the tongue ³  comes from ⁴  the Lord. ⁵
