Gideon said to them, “I will not rule over you, nor will my son rule over you. The Lord will rule over you.”

the sun to rule by day, for his loyal love endures,

The Lord says, ¹  “I will make youths their officials; malicious young men ²  will rule over them.

Look, a king will promote fairness; ¹  officials will promote justice. ² 

You must not rule over him harshly, ¹  but you must fear your God.

by me princes rule, as well as nobles and ¹  all righteous judges. ² 

The diligent ¹  person ²  will rule, but the slothful ³  will become a slave. ⁴ 

Slaves ¹  rule over us; there is no one to rescue us from their power. ² 

The Lord ¹  extends ²  your dominion ³  from Zion. Rule in the midst of your enemies!

A servant who acts wisely ¹  will rule over ²  an heir ³  who behaves shamefully, ⁴  and will share the inheritance along with the relatives. ⁵ 

the moon and stars to rule by night, for his loyal love endures,

Luxury is not appropriate ¹  for a fool; ²  how much less for a servant to rule over princes! ³ 

Indeed, they will hear meaningless gibberish, senseless babbling, a syllable here, a syllable there. ¹ 

For the Lord your God will bless you just as he has promised; you will lend to many nations but will not borrow from any, and you will rule over many nations but they will not rule over you.

You rule over the proud sea. ¹  When its waves surge, ²  you calm them.

Therefore, listen to the Lord’s word, you who mock, you rulers of these people who reside in Jerusalem! ¹ 

Then a powerful king ¹  will arise, exercising great authority and doing as he pleases.

Do you know the laws of the heavens, or can you set up their rule over the earth?

Now after you another kingdom ¹  will arise, one inferior to yours. Then a third kingdom, one of bronze, will rule in all the earth.

he ¹  will rule ²  them with an iron rod ³  and like clay jars he will break them to pieces, ⁴
